With slippers being the only finishing touches on our lockdown looks, you’d be forgiven for believing that sliders - and every other style of shoe - have totally dropped off our radars. Well, we’re sorry (not sorry!) to say that this 100% isn’t the situation: standout, comfy and embellished sliders are high up on our wishlists for summer 2020 - and they’re set to get even bigger in the months to come. So, it really is time to put that Zoom call on pause and start finding your new favourites.
Don’t worry, though. We’ve got you. Here, we’ve rounded up the 14 pairs of sliders that you need to know right now (and for the rest of the season). Expect an edit of detailed straps, espadrille-style flatforms and cute leopard-print designs that we hope will, (a) match the pieces already in your at-home wardrobe, (b) minimise the hassle of endlessly scrolling, and (c) make you want to say “slippers, who?!”.
The even better news: some of the latest versions – particularly the python-look and transparent sliders – are a giving us major late-80s and early-90s vibes. But, for a fresh take, they’ve been given a brand-new update. So, without further ado, here are the sliders we’ll be sliding into and how to style them for the days ahead...
1. Tan Leather-Look Sliders - £9.99
What sliders are in fashion? Well, first up, there’s the leather-look slider. With contrast stitching, an open toe design, and cut-out details, it’s literally the ideal shoes for the warmer weather. Oh and, not forgetting to mention, it has a neutral colourway which you can team with anything.
2. Off White Leather-Look Buckle Strap Footbed Sliders - £12.99
If you’re the kind of gal who likes footwear that feels 100% fresh and makes a subtle style statement, then it’s time to invest in a pair of off-white, leather-look sliders like these. We say, keep things light and breezy by choosing an all-white look – jeans, top and belt included.
Introduce a splash of colour to your WFH look by wearing these real leather shoes. Let us guess, now you want to know ‘how to style sliders like these?’ We’d go with light-wash jeans or a printed midi dress…but the options really are endless.
Seeking out a luxe-looking sandal for a purse-friendly price? Call off the search. Metal bar details and python print designs were seen all over the catwalks, and the fashion crowd have been spotted wearing them with denim pieces in every shade imaginable.
Give those sofa-to-bed-to-sofa slippers a break - and a fashion upgrade- by giving these diamante sandals a try. We’re all about adding glitter to our lockdown looks, so we’d team them with an embellished top and denim shorts. Extra, us? Never.
Which sliders are the most comfortable? It might just be these… For those days when slippers just aren’t the one, mock-croc sliders with a square toe design are 100% the answer. Why not introduce them to a neutral palette of tan, white and fresh cream colours? Neutrals are necessary.
7. Black Leather-Look Toe Loop Strappy Sliders - £12.99
These black leather-look sliders = comfortable = leaving them on 24/7. Perfect. Thanks to the multiple straps and toe loops, we’ll be living in these sliders all lockdown long. Plus, they’re just right for taking on holiday (when it’s time).
We may be lacking in some much-needed vitamin D right now, but that doesn’t mean our wardrobes have to go without any. Every look feels ‘summer-ready’ once you’ve added nautical stripes, rope details, and your favourite summer dress. Fact.
We’ve all probably had a pair of tan sliders in our lives at some point. But, whether you’re looking to update some you already own, or just invest in a fresh set (you do you), we recommend opting for ones with a twist-front detail.
11. Black Patent Faux Croc Footbed Sliders - £19.99
Introducing a cute look for scrolling all day long or taking the occasional Zoom call: mock-croc sliders with a double strap and a patent finish, an oversized shirt and rolled-up jeans. For accessories, always add pendant necklaces. Always.
12. White Diamanté Embellished Jelly Sliders - £19.99
If you don’t immediately envision Carrie Bradshaw twirling around her NY apartment when you see these, then it might be time to re-watch SATC (which we wouldn’t say no to!). To make it feel more ‘now’, add a rock tee and a denim skirt.
13. Wide Fit Stone Leopard Print Footbed Sliders - £19.99
If ever there was a time to not change your spots, it’s now: leopard patterns are having a big fashion moment again. Tip – by wearing one colour on top, you’ll make your leopard-print sliders pop even more (which is something that we’re all about).
14. Black Footbed Chunky Flatform Espadrille Sliders - £14.39 £23.99
Where better to end our edit than with chunky sandals? In a soft-to-touch fabric and with buckle details, the newest flatforms are even higher and (like most things in fashion) look best when worn with an all-black look. Consider a peplum midi dress with lots of tiers.
