How To Celebrate Christmas at Home Like Bridget Jones

by Chloe Wilshere, Content Creator

When it comes to Christmas films yes there’s the classics from The Holiday to Love Actually and Home Alone, but there’s one that we’ll be watching on repeat this festive season and that is, of course, Bridget Jones’ Diary.

Although it often sparks up a debate as to whether or not it actually is a Christmas film, us New Lookers are firm believers that Bridget Jones’ Diary deserves a place in the festive film category (and arguably it’s also the best one of the lot) because, at the end of the day, if there’s a Christmas jumper featured then it is definitely a Christmas film.

It might have been 19 years since Bridget Jones’ Diary first aired on the big screen, but there’s something about it that feels more relevant than ever before given the year we’ve all been through. With the plot following Bridget’s agony over being single during the festive period - whether it’s your partner, friends, or family you’re missing - it’s safe to say we can all relate to that sense of loneliness this Christmas.

So, if you’re looking for ways to keep your mind occupied this holiday season, we’ve taken advice from Bridget Jones, the woman herself, on how to celebrate the festive season at home.

1. Pig Out

You may be having ‘one of those days’, but there’s no denying the fact that it is the festive season and, just like Bridget Jones, you deserve to have an evening pigging out and feasting on all of your favourite festive delicacies. And why not…it is Christmas, after all - not to mention the fact that you deserve it after the year you’ve had. So, it’s time to whip out the Christmas PJs, indulge yourself in chocolate and eat to your heart’s content.

2. Put on Your Christmas PJs and Read a Book

If, like Bridget Jones, life has got you feeling a little stressed, then what better way to wind down and relax than with a new book? So, this festive season, put your feet up in some new fluffy socks, throw on some must-have Christmas PJs and relax during your downtime with a new book.

3. Write a Diary

Take core inspiration from Bridget Jones this festive season and start spending your evenings writing a diary. 2020 is certainly a time none of us will ever forget, but what better way to remember it than by writing a diary and looking back on it in years to come?

4. Snuggle Up

It’s feeling chillier than usual this festive season, and with more time being spent at home, what better to do than take inspiration from Bridget Jones and take your duvet to the sofa, snuggle up in your favourite dressing gown and binge-watch as many Christmas films as you want. Sounds like the perfect way to spend the festive season if you ask us.

5. Celebrate with Family & Flatmates

You may have had very little time away from them this year, but through the highs and lows, the people you live with have been at the forefront of everything you’ve gone through this year, even if they have got on your nerves at times.

And during the festive season, it’s important to celebrate at home in your bubble together, celebrating the fact that 2020 is almost over and you’ve all made it through. It’s also the perfect excuse to turn the house party up a notch and purchase our light up cocktail shaker 😉.
