4 Ways To Wear Loungewear When You Go Out

by Emma Menteath, Content Lead

If there ever was a trend to take over our social feeds and become a way of life it’s loungewear. What started as comfort dressing during those months at home has now become a staple trend both inside the house and outside.

But how to style your loungewear when stepping out into public without looking like you rolled out of bed? Easy. We’ve styled up 4 simple loungewear looks that are both comfy and smart for you to try at home (and out) that don’t require much effort. Give em go…you can thank us later.

How to wear loungewear with a maxi coat, a logo sweatshirt, black cycling shorts and biker boots.

1. Cycling Shorts

Who would have thought cycling shorts would become such a wardrobe essential for non-cyclists? When we first saw this loungewear trend emerging, we passed it off as a passing Kardashian trend. Boy, how wrong were we. The key to styling your cycling shorts lies in the top half of your outfit. Tight on the bottom and lose on the top. We suggest an oversized sweatshirt (always go 1 or 2 sizes up for extra comfort) or an oversized blazer if you’re looking for a more polished loungewear look. For colder weather, layer up with an extra-long coat to keep those legs warm and a pair of chunky boots. It’s a loungewear look you’ll definitely want to document for your social feeds #JustSaying.

2. Matchy-Matchy

If there ever was a loungewear look that required minimal effort it’s the matching set. It’s also the new WFH wardrobe, we’ve totally swapped out our trousers and blazers for matching bits like these. Up your loungewear game by opting for a pair of fine knit joggers – Katie Holmes style – and a cosy hoodie. This look works well for girls’ nights in too – just add a fluffy coat, a pair of trainers and a cute bag for those commutes across town. We guarantee everyone will be jealous 😉.

3. Layer Up

Everyone’s favourite lock down loungewear must-have: a trusty pair of joggers. But how to style your loungewear to take you from your Netflix movie marathon to your grocery store run? Easy. Layer with a button-up shirts, or for those colder weather days, opt for an on-trend button-up shacket and a fluffy aviator jacket a la Hailey Bieber. We suggest sleeked back hair and a pair of sunnies for those weekends when you couldn’t be bothered to put on make-up or wash your hair. Divert attention by accessorising up with lots of gold necklaces.

4. Head-to-Tonal

Looking for a sophisticated way to wear loungewear that can work for lunch out? Why not try the head-to-tonal approach? Play around with textures and cuts like wide leg trousers or different patterns. Picking pieces of the same hue will elevate even the most casual loungewear look. We’ve opted for a pair of checked wide-leg trousers teamed with a stylish varsity hoodie and on-the-go white trainers. When popping out just add a cosy coat – preferably in the same hue – and you’ll look polished and pulled together in no time.
