Ways to Wear

7 Carrie Bradshaw Outfits We'd Totally Wear Out Now

by Emma Menteath, Editorial Lead

After watching countless reruns of Sex and the City over the last couple of months of staying at home, we decided to turn to our favourite Sex and the City character, Carrie Bradshaw, for going out inspiration now that things are slowly returning to ‘normal’ (or as close to normal as it can get right now).

While Carrie’s looks are often totally over the top, we can’t help but admire the confidence she oozes while strutting around the streets of Manhattan in her contrasting prints and classic Manolo Blahnik heels.

So, if there’s anything you take away from this editorial let it be a little inspiration and confidence boost for your next night out and perhaps a new dress (or two😉) to jazz up that wardrobe of yours.

And the next time you step out your front door, ask yourself, “What would Carrie do?”…

1. The Classic LBD

Never underestimate the powers of the LBD . A key item in any girl’s wardrobe, the LBD is an item to invest in now to wear again and again – just ask Carrie Bradshaw. Take cue from our favourite Sex and the City girl and embrace the 90s trend in a bodycon LBD, elevated with strappy heels and the ever-so-classic round sunglasses for your next girls’ day-to-night out.

2. The Matching Suit

Heading back to reality and forgotten how to dress for work? Don’t worry, we have too. But as always, Carrie Bradshaw delivers all the fashion inspo just when we need it the most and we must say, we do love a matching suit - it's easy to throw on and mix and match when you want. Just add heels and you’ll be ready for world domination.

3. The Floral Midi Dress

The classic ‘he loves me, he loves me not’ dress. Carrie Bradshaw stepped out looking ever-so-glam in her floral midi dress at a point in the show when we were left wondering whether Carrie and Big were going to be ‘a thing’. So, if you're getting ready to jump on the dating bandwagon too (or just looking for something cute to wear on your next night out with your partner), we suggest putting your best (strappy heeled) foot forward in a ruffled midi dress styled up with a cute diamanté clutch and heels.

4. It’s All In The Accessories

Looking for a simple (and affordable) way to dress up your next going out outfit without having to invest in a whole new look? Make like Carrie Bradshaw (and Kendall for that matter) and style up your outfit with a new headscarf and rimless sunglasses. An ideal look for drinks in the pub garden with your mates. P.S. it's also ideal for those moments you just couldn’t be bothered to wash your hair.

5. The Totally-Over-The-Top Tulle Skirt -

What better way to step out into our new-found freedom than by embracing a totally over the top, yet ridiculously adorable, going out-out outfit? We adore the understated muted pastels tones of Carrie's iconic tulle skirt and lilac heels. If Carrie Bradshaw could pull off a tulle skirt in Times Square, I don’t see why we can’t pull it off for our next Sunday brunch with mum, bubbles in hand of course 😉.

6. The Girly-Girl Dress

Some may call it rags, others would call it fashion, we like to call it Totally Carrie. Once again, Carrie Bradshaw shows us how to style an unlikely combo of items. At the end of the day it’s all about confidence and stepping out with a smile on your face and the intention of a fun-filled day ahead of you. So, get out that pink ruffled mini dress, add a pair of contrasting heels and accessorise your look with some 90s favourites like chunky jewels and silky scarves.

7. The Pink Blazer

Yet another back to reality look we plan on stealing from Carrie Bradshaw (sorry Carrie!). We adore how the Sex and The City star sparked up the usual work colour palette of black and grey with a touch of colour to not only brighten up her own day, but that of those around her too. As they say, “why be drab when you can be fab?!”
