What To Wear To The Races

by Chloe Wilshere, Content Creator

Race season is fast approaching and that means only one thing; the search is on to find the perfect race day outfit. The races are a perfect excuse to get dressed up to the nines with your friends and are possibly the only day of the year that it’s acceptable to bet your month's wages on a horse with a good name.

When it comes to the races, we know that it’s the second most difficult occasion to dress for (wedding dressing definitely comes out on top). With strict dress codes and formal traditions, you'll want to make sure you are dressed appropriately but will also want to feel comfortable and not be wearing something you'll never wear again. So if you’re looking for something new to wear that will make you feel like yourself and be worn again to future events, we’ve rounded up 5 celebrity outfits that will ensure that even if you come out a loser on the horses, you’ll still be a winner in the fashion stakes.

1. A Statement Suit

Tailoring is having a revival, meaning that suits are no longer strictly for work. Get yourself suited up for a day at the races this year just like Helen Flanagan.

This year, the tailored suit trend has also taken a more playful approach with pastel colours a key feature. From pink to lime, the choice is yours. Style your suit with a lace bodysuit or cami top, strappy heels and a clutch. Oh and don’t forget your hat!

2. Spots

This year we are as hot for the spot as Priyanka Chopra and Nicole Kidman are. This print totally hits the spot for the perfect race day dress. The print is elegant and comes in an array of different styles dependent on your preference and can be worn again to all kinds of occasions, even for the everyday. So if you’re looking to invest in a race day dress that isn’t going to sit at the back of your wardrobe and never be worn again, the spot print is the perfect option to see you through the rest of the summer.

3. Florals

Florals are certainly not a new print to the scene. But if there’s one occasion where you can embrace the florals and look super elegant, it’s for a day at the races. The best thing about florals is that there is a floral print out there for everyone, no matter your style.

And one floral look we particularly love is Natalie Dormer in a green ruffled floral dress accessorised with a pearl bag and fascinator in complimenting colours at The Royal Ascot Ladies Day. It’s a beautiful dress which could easily be worn again whether to another occasion or even a picnic in the park.

4. Lace

Feminine and forever in style, a lace dress is a favourite for summer occasions and perfect for days at the races. The classic material looks super elegant in a mini dress form, as worn by Laura Whitmore. The best thing about lace is that it comes in all sorts of styles to suit you and is definitely something you won’t get turned away wearing; you’ll just be turning heads instead. Keep accessories to a sophisticated minimum when wearing a lace dress - do it like Laura with a nude shoe, metallic clutch and complimenting fascinator.

5. Broderie

It quite simply isn’t event season without broderie being thrown into the mix. The super girly and feminine fabric is flattering on everyone, no matter how you choose to wear it and whatever colour you go for.

Roxie Nafousi embraces the British sun in a white broderie midi dress styled with courts and an oversized straw hat. Broderie dresses offer optimum comfort for a day on the go and are perfect for future occasions, think Wimbledon and holiday nights out. A broderie dress is a perfect addition to any wardrobe.
